Matt Gonzales speaks in this article about the tough road ahead for eliminating the SHSAT.
One of the many problems with a myopic focus on the “specialized” high schools is that the resulting “solutions” only cause more problems in the system as a whole. Speaker Johnson and Public Advocate Williams, we don’t need to expand segregated G&T programs; students of all backgrounds learn best in heterogeneous classrooms. Trying to leverage tools created for the purpose of legitimizing and perpetuating white privilege to benefit a small number of children of color is a losing strategy. We need to eliminate these structures, reimagine our schools, and move forward with the needs of ALL students in mind. #RealIntegration
