Good piece from Assemblymember Walter Mosley on NYS’s new law banning discrimination by landlords against renters with non-wage income such as veteran benefits, disability benefits, Section 8 vouchers, or child support. Appleseed was a proud member of the coalition that worked to get this law enacted – an important step toward more integrated communities in our state. Mr. Mosley reminds us of a principle central to the Appleseed model: legislation is only the beginning; ultimately the executive branch of government determines how laws affect people’s lives. And that is where we must turn our attention now.
