As profiled in this recent Chalkbeat article and in a follow-up article, schools and community school districts across New York City have been requesting permission from the NYC Department of Education to take reasonable steps to preserve school diversity as neighborhoods change. New York Appleseed and diversity advocates from across the city signed a letter calling for the removal of a harmful and inaccurate footnote from Chancellor’s Regulation A-101 identified in New York Appleseed’s Within Our Reach series.
