After years of advocacy by community members, the New York City Department of Education approved a school-integration plan for Community School District 1 in Manhattan. The planning leading up to the plan was funded by the New York State Education Department’s Socioeconomic Integration Pilot Program that Appleseed helped to craft, and Appleseed provided critical guidance to the community process as well.
