Council member Ritchie Torres joined advocates from across the City on December 20th at Woodrow’s Restaurant to talk about his efforts to integrate NYC schools. He discussed his recent bill introduced to the City Council to open an Office of School Diversity (He may be replacing diversity with “Integration” or “Desegregation” per our feedback) in the Human Rights Commission. He talked about his framing of this issue and why he introduced this bill. Torres fielded a variety of questions from our group and engaged us in a very fruitful conversation. We look forward to continued partnership with Council members Torres and Lander who have been strong advocates for school integration.
