Nothing About Us – 2018

New York Appleseed is proud to continue our partnership with Epic Theatre Ensemble’s youth company Epic Next. After the great success of Laundry City (see below), Appleseed was compelled to re-commission Epic students to develop a new play about educational segregation during the summer of 2018. We are proud to present Nothing About Us, an original play written, researched, and performed by New York City high school students.

Laundry City – 2016/18

During the summer of 2016, New York Appleseed commissioned the talented artists from Epic Theatre Ensemble’s youth company Epic Next to develop a play about educational segregation, centered in the voices and experiences of New York City students. Epic Next’s five young people from the LAUNDRY CITY Company interviewed over 30 educators, policy experts, parents and students on the topic of educational segregation and created the original play LAUNDRY CITY — a hilarious and provocative exploration of what “Separate but Equal” means to us today.  New York Appleseed has helped to bring Laundry City to venues all across the City, State, and Country.
