On September 20 Appleseed stood with Mayor Bill de Blasio and Chancellor Richard A. Carranza, Councilmember Brad Lander, and Councilmember Carlos Menchaca to celebrate the approval of the community-driven diversity plan for middle schools in Community School District 15. We are grateful to the entire District 15 community and especially these two councilmembers, Superintendent Anita Skop, the Community Education Council, and advocates like Principal Jill Bloomberg and Parents for Middle School Equity for their many years of work leading to this plan. Last but not least, WXY Architecture + Urban Design facilitated the best community-engagement process in the modern history of DOE and threaded the needle over and over again to produce a workable plan for the district.
