
On February 23, Appleseed’s Lena Dalke testified alongside fellow members of the Thriving Communities Coalition at a New York City Council Committee on Governmental Operations hearing on a new bill to implement comprehensive planning in New York City. Despite being the first city in the nation to have a zoning law, New York City is one of the very last to engage in the comprehensive planning needed to guide zoning.
Appleseed stressed the importance of having a comprehensive planning process that centers integration in order to address economic and racial segregation that centuries of racist governmental policies have cemented into our city’s infrastructure.
