DOE announces expansion of school diversity pilot program

Updated: Jun 18

In another victory for New York Appleseed and New York City, the Department of Education has announced a significant expansion of the school diversity pilot program.  A new application process will allow principals from “every public school in the city” to apply for changes to admissions plans that will promote school integration.  Meanwhile, a dozen schools in the DOE’s PROSE program are already working with DOE to change admissions and increase outreach.  These developments were made possible by a 2012 breakthrough in which New York Appleseed worked with community stakeholders to secure a pro-diversity admissions plan for PS 133.
