The Movement for Integration in New York City

A Resource for the Movement Toward Real Integration in NYC

For over a decade, students, families, educators, and community advocates across New York City have led the fight for integrated and equitable schools. Now, the Movement for Integration resource brings together the history, laws, policies, and campaigns that have shaped that work.

Created to inform city leaders and the public, this document offers a powerful overview of how we got here, what tools we already have, and what must come next. From the foundational 5Rs of Real Integration to adopted laws like Local Law 225 and the Diversity Accountability Act, the resource highlights the knowledge and momentum behind the integration movement.
